Diapers In Space

When Alan Shepard climbed aboard Freedom 7 he had no idea how long he'd be up there. After a long wait, Shepard he had to urinate. "Gordo!" Shepard said, talking to Gordon Cooper, "Man, I got to pee....I've got to pee. I've been up here forever."

Alan Shepard wanted to get out of the ship but there wasn't enough time. Unfortunately, there was no urine collection system or adult diapers in use at that time, and the medics were concerned he could short-circuit the leads in his suit. Eventually, Shepard couldn't hold it any longer and urinated in his space suit. The urine pooled in the small of his back and was soaked up by the heavy undergarment he was wearing. The 100 percent oxygen flowing through the suit soon dried him out.

The Associated Press reports that these days astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry.

Lisa Nowak seems to have taken her space training too seriously and reportedly brought adult diapers with her as she drove from Houston to Orlando to allegedly confront Colleen Shipman.
